There is also the easier version of that-use a longer sword to kill the weak normal vikingr and do about 1 slash each to reduce the hp of the danish elites/ship captains/etc, then when the morale mechanic causes the ship captains/danish elites to start fleeing, switch weapons to the tree branch and knock them out from behind. In general even on the highest combat ai setting warband NPCs just can't do much to combat a mounted player. You have to have good timing of course, as you need to get your horse really close with their short reach, but it is completely doable. Mounted means consistent speed bonuses to damage that let you knock out a top troop in a couple of hits. What makes the tree branch a good blunt weapon is it can be used mounted. They do pitiful damage against heavily armored foes, which are the ones worth recruiting. Sure, and there is also the quaterstaff, swinging spears for blunt damage, etc.īut none of those are good blunt weapons.
